The meeting "CLE/AIPS - Science, Truth and Consistency" will be held from August 23th to 28th 2009 under joint sponsorhip from the Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science (CLE) at the State University of Campinas, Brazil, and the Académie Internationale de Philosophie des Sciences (AIPS) based in Belgium.
The event will be held in tribute to the 80 years of Professor Newton Carneiro Affonso da Costa, a pioneer researcher in the areas of logic and philosophy of science in Brazil and Latin America, particularly in activities related to paraconsistent logic, and will involve members of CLE and AIPS. For the first time since its official establishment (1949) a meeting of the Academy will be held in Brazil, aiming at bringing together internationally renowned researchers in philosophy, logic, epistemology, history and philosophy of science, with the purpose of discussing a wide variety of topics of highest interest, focused on issues related to the work of da Costa, such as: philosophy, philosophy of science, non-classical logic, history and philosophy of logic, among others, with emphasis on interdisciplinarity.

The event aims to further and promote stronger interaction among students and researchers in the areas of logic, epistemology and history of science and the exchange of experiences between researchers of AIPS and CLE. During the meeting the traditional AIPS Assembly will be held at UNICAMP and Prof. da Costa will be honored with the title of 'Professor Emeritus' conferred by the State University of Campinas-UNICAMP.
