Announcement
The Cahiers of History and Philosophy of Science (Cadernos de História e Filosofia da Ciência, editors Profs. Jairo José da Silva and Osvaldo Pessoa Jr.) is about to launch a new series. Formerly published only in Portuguese since 1980 by the Centre for Logic, Epistemology and History of Science (CLE) of the University of Campinas (Unicamp), in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, the journal will now accept contributions in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English in both the history and philosophy of the formal sciences (logic and mathematics) and the pure and applied empirical sciences, with emphasis on scientific rather than institutional issues.
Contributions should be submitted by e-mail to CLE – Publications <clepub@unicamp.br>. After evaluation by our panel of reviewers authors will be informed, also by email, of the journal’s decision. The issues of Cahiers of this new series, two per year (as well as all previous issues), will be available for free download. Paper copies of individual articles or whole issues can be ordered with a fee to be stipulated.
This new series of Cahiers is committed to the original intention of CLE in launching the Cadernos, to be a vehicle for the discussion and divulgation of original ideas, approaches, findings, and perspectives in the history and philosophy of science, understanding by science, essentially, what is known under this denomination or that of “natural philosophy” from the late Middle Ages to our time, but recognizing that ancient and medieval periods (in the East or the West) can also be of interest for the historian and the philosopher of science (ancient mathematics, astronomy or medicine are obvious examples), provided the focus is on strictly scientific, not general philosophical issues. In short, we do not understand “science” as a generic term for knowledge and so distinguish between philosophy of science and epistemology or theory of knowledge.
