The CLE, planned and organized in 1976, was officially established in the UNICAMP in 1977 by Professor Oswaldo Porchat Pereira, having professors and researchers of several Institutes of the UNICAMP and of other Brazilian and foreign universities as members.

Main Building
The Center for Logic, Epistemology and History of Science (CLE), an Interdisciplinary Research Center, a complementary body of the State University of Campinas - Unicamp, subordinate to the Coordination of Interdisciplinary Research Centers and Nuclei - COCEN, a body of the Rector's Office - created by Ordinance GR-38/77, with its own specialized technical and administrative staff, has the following objectives, working in the areas of logic, epistemology and history of science:
I. promote and encourage interdisciplinary research and study;
II. promote publications that ensure the regular dissemination of this research;
III. organize seminars, colloquia, meetings, study weeks and conferences;
IV. encourage and collaborate in the development of interdisciplinary postgraduate courses, with a view above all to training higher education teaching staff in the aforementioned areas;
V. promote and ensure the integration of Unicamp with other university and research institutions in the country, aiming at the development of those areas in the Brazilian university environment;
VI. maintain permanent contact with national and foreign teaching and research institutions, in order to ensure the exchange of researchers and the contribution of those institutions to the improvement and good functioning of the planned programs;
VII. maintain bibliographic and documentation collections, aiming to provide infrastructure to professors, researchers and students interested in the areas of activity of the CLE;
VIII. act as an advanced research center, welcoming Brazilian and foreign researchers who wish to develop post-doctoral activities, under the supervision of a member of the CLE, in the areas of logic, epistemology and history of science and as Associate Researcher, in accordance with article 19, Chapter V.
I. conduct and promote research in its areas of expertise, with the participation of its members, or in partnership with other institutions;
II. publish papers resulting from research developed by CLE members or by guest researchers;
III. promote, sponsor or co-sponsor interdisciplinary events, with the participation of internal and external bodies of Unicamp;
IV. collaborate in the creation and operation of undergraduate, graduate, specialization, extension and training courses, in the areas of its expertise, proposed by Units and other bodies of Unicamp;
V. collaborate in the research and extension programs of the Units and other bodies of the University, in the areas of its expertise;
VI. collaborate with other bodies of the University, upon invitation by the Senior Management or upon request of the bodies;
VII. develop interdisciplinary programs in its areas of expertise, involving professors and researchers from Unicamp and other teaching and research institutions in Brazil and abroad;
VIII. provide technical and consulting services in their areas of activity, also involving specialized library, documentation, microfilming and publishing services, in compliance with the University's standards and existing infrastructure;
IX. provide the necessary infrastructure for researchers who intend to develop post-doctoral activities in the areas of activity of the CLE.
