Historical Archives - CLE/Unicamp

History

History Interdisciplinarity is a hallmark of the Center for Logic, Epistemology and History of Science. According to the CLE Strategic Plan, the mission of the Historical Archives (CLEARQ/ARQHIST), created in 1988, is to collect, organize, preserve, make available and disseminate documentary collections, especially those related to the History of Science. It aims to act as a center for knowledge production and research promotion, always seeking to carry out interdisciplinary actions that integrate teaching, research and outreach. It also aims to foster multidisciplinary research.

Currently, CLEARQ has a collection occupying 296 linear meters, in 29 documentary sets including Funds and Collections. It is a comprehensive and relevant collection for the preservation of scientific, philosophical and educational thought in Brazil. Beyond the Funds and Collections, CLEARQ also maintains the testimonies of Brazilian scientists and researchers, conducted within the scope of the "National Scientific Memory" project. Among these, we highlight the interviews with Jayme Tiomno and Elisa Frota-Pessoa, Walter Hugo de Andrade Cunha, Newton Carneiro Affonso da Costa, João Lúcio de Azevedo, and Elaine Elisa de Souza e Azeredo. We also preserve the conferences, colloquia, and seminars held and/or co-organized by CLE, including the Self-Organization seminars, conceived and created by Prof. Michel Maurice Debrun in 1986.

From the initial documentation, noteworthy items include the personal archive of Joaquim da Costa Ribeiro, the transfer of documentary collections belonging to the Ministry of Education and Culture: the Institutes Plan Commission (COSUPI) and the Technological Education Program (PROTEC), and the acquisition of 55 interviews, out of the 77 conducted within the context of the project "History of Science in Brazil," coordinated by Simon Schwartzmann.

Access to historical documentation on the evolution of science and scientific thought in Brazil is free of charge. The collection can be searched through the AtoM database.
