Campinas is a Brazilian municipality in São Paulo State. It is located about 100km from São Paulo city and hosts one of the most important public universities of Brasil, the University of Campinas (UNICAMP).

The Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science (CLE) was originally conceived in 1976, and inaugurated at UNICAMP in The membership of the Centre includes academics and researchers from various institutes, departments and faculties at UNICAMP, and from other Brazilian and foreign universities. The primary objective of the creation of CLE was to develop activities in the areas of Logic, Epistemology, and Science, as well as interdisciplinary research, as a result of which the Centre now supports an intense academic exchange between researchers and institutions within Brazil and overseas. Activities include the regular organization of seminars and scientific meetings, coordination of research programs, assessment of interdisciplinary postgraduate courses, and the maintenance of bibliographic and other literature resources that are available to support the work of researchers and students.
